To check ACT number plate availability, use Access Canberra’s online plate ordering tool and pop your preferred combo into the checker.

Pick a plate style first, then test your letters/numbers—offensive or confusing combos won’t fly, and some formats only allow certain lengths.

If it’s available, you can reserve or order it by paying the applicable fee; if not, the checker will suggest alternatives before you throw the keyboard.

Have your licence and vehicle details handy, and remember personalised plates remain linked to you, not the car, until you transfer or surrender them.
