check vin number vic Page 14

Checking a VIN in Victoria is blessedly simple—no crystal ball required.

The official route is a PPSR search (about $2), using the 17‑character VIN to pull national data via NEVDIS: encumbrance/finance, written‑off, and stolen status.

For rego status, VicRoads lets you check by number plate; if all you’ve got is the VIN, PPSR is your friend.

Make sure the VIN on the windscreen/build plate matches the stamped number, and keep the PPSR certificate PDF as your “I did my homework” receipt.
