child seat requirements victoria Page 8

In Victoria, the law is as clear as a windshield after a rainstorm: children must ride in an appropriate child restraint until they turn seven years old. Here's the skinny:

• Birth to 6 months: Rear-facing child seat.
• 6 months to 4 years: Forward-facing child seat with an inbuilt harness.
• 4 to 7 years: Booster seat or child safety harness.

After seven, kids can use the regular seatbelt, but make sure it fits properly—lap belt low over the hips, shoulder belt across the chest. Failing to comply can land you a fine and, more importantly, put your precious cargo at risk. For the latest and detailed info, check VicRoads or ServiceCentral.
