common problems with isuzu ute mu-x Page 3

The Isuzu MU-X is tougher than a roo bar at dawn, but a few gremlins still try their luck. Most complaints centre on short-trip diesel habits: the DPF can clog if it never gets a proper hot run, and the EGR system can soot up over time. Heavy towing and outback corrugations aren’t faults, but they can nudge the auto transmission temps up and hurry along shock/bush wear if maintenance is skimped. Owners also report the occasional tailgate/third-row rattle on rough roads and premature tyre shoulder wear if alignment isn’t kept in check after accessories or lifts.

• DPF regenerations with lots of city driving; highway runs and software updates help.
• EGR soot buildup causing rough idle or hesitation; periodic cleaning fixes it.
• Transmission heat when towing; auxiliary cooler and timely fluid services are popular.
• Rear suspension bushes/shocks wearing early on tourers; listen for clunks.
• Minor interior rattles from the rear area; clips and felt tape usually cure them.

Always check recall status, service history and evidence of proper diesel regen cycles; a well-serviced MU-X is usually as drama-free as a Sunday arvo nap.
