common problems with kia cerato Page 4

The Kia Cerato is generally dependable, but like any commuter hero it has a few gremlins waiting for an invitation.

Across generations, most issues are annoyances rather than catastrophic wallet-enders; here’s what owners and mechanics in Australia most often report:

• 2.0‑litre petrol can use oil if servicing is lax; check levels and service history
• Cerato GT’s 7‑speed dual‑clutch may shudder or hesitate in stop‑start traffic; software updates and sympathetic driving help
• Front brake shudder and prematurely worn pads/rotors, especially on city‑runabout duty
• Suspension knocks from strut tops or end links, plus occasional infotainment/reversing camera glitches
• Recall watch: ABS control module short‑circuit risk on certain years—verify VIN status with Kia

Take a long test drive from cold, scan for warning lights, check for even tyre wear, and walk if the service records read like a mystery novel.
