common problems with mg mg3 Page 5

The MG3 is a simple little hatch that keeps costs down, which is brilliant until the penny-pinching shows.

Reliability is generally decent for the money, but you’ll hear more squeaks and see more scuffs than in pricier rivals.

• Minor interior rattles and trim creaks, especially from doors and hatch area on rough roads.
• Paint and exterior trim that scuffs or chips more easily than you’d hope.
• Infotainment quirks and Bluetooth dropouts; occasional slow response from the head unit.
• Air-con performance can feel a bit wheezy on stinking-hot days.
• Premature tyre wear or drift out of alignment, highlighting light-duty suspension bushings.
• Older 4‑speed auto (pre-2024 cars) can hunt or feel slushy, with high revs on the highway.
• Light brake squeal at low speeds—annoying more than alarming.

Most issues are nuisance-grade rather than catastrophic; regular servicing and warranty attention (MG backs it with seven years) usually keep things tidy.

Take a long test drive on coarse-chip roads and over speed bumps, and check tyres and service history before you hand over the folding stuff.
