common problems with mitsubishi pajero sport Page 3

The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is a tough unit, but it’s not entirely bulletproof—no SUV is, unless it’s parked forever.

Owners most often grumble about the diesel’s emissions gear and some driveline quirks rather than anything catastrophic.

• DPF clogging on short-trip use, sometimes with regen warnings and limp mode.
• EGR soot build-up causing rough running and average economy over time.
• Occasional harsh or hesitant shifts from the 8-speed auto, plus torque-converter shudder under light throttle.
• 4WD indicator light flashing due to actuator or vacuum issues in the Super Select system.
• Suspension bush wear and rear diff whine on high‑km tow cars; infotainment glitches and weak tailgate struts.

Service history, regular highway runs to keep the DPF happy, and checking recall work help; get a pre‑purchase inspection and you’ll know if it’s a gem or a grumble.

Also expect the usual 4x4 consumables—brakes, tyres and batteries—to wear faster if it’s done off-road or towing.
