Owning a Nissan Patrol is like having a blue heeler: tough as nails, but it’ll sulk if you skip the basics. Across generations, they’re generally stout, but a few gremlins are well known.

• Early 3.0 ZD30 GU (circa early 2000s): reputation for failures from overboost/lubrication issues; post-update engines and careful tuning fare better.
• EGR/MAF soot build-up and intake clogging causing limp mode or sluggishness; regular cleaning, quality filters and a catch can help.
• Front-end shimmy/wobble from worn panhard bushes, kingpin bearings or poor wheel balance; usually cured with fresh bushes, bearings and alignment.
• Rust in rear quarters, sills/chassis rails and roof gutters—worse on ex-beach or muddy lives.
• Diff/axle seal leaks and blocked breathers; look for oily brakes and fit extended breathers if you play in water.
