common problems with volvo xc40 Page 4

Volvo’s XC40 is generally solid, but like any stylish Swede, it has a few quirks that can ruffle your latte.

• Infotainment glitches (slow startup, random reboots, Bluetooth dropouts); software updates usually help.
• Occasional wind noise or door-seal rattles at highway speeds.
• Front suspension knocks over sharp bumps; worn top mounts or sway-bar links are common culprits.
• Stop–start hesitation or hesitant shifts on T4/T5 autos in traffic; fresh fluid and software can smooth it out.
• Driver-assist false alarms or camera/radar calibration after a windscreen swap.
• Recharge (EV) models: charging quirks, heat-pump HVAC complaints, and 12V battery niggles if not driven regularly.

Prioritise cars with full dealer history, check for outstanding recalls, and take a long test drive on coarse-chip bitumen. A pre-purchase inspection and the latest software updates turn most of these gripes into footnotes, not deal-breakers. Budget for tyres and brakes; the XC40 likes quality rubber, and so should you.
