For light swirls and hazing, use a finishing polish or a fine-cut scratch remover; it cleans the clear coat rather than chewing it.

Deeper marks need a rubbing/compound (medium cut, roughly 1500–2000-grit equivalent), followed by a polish to restore gloss.

Do the fingernail test: if your nail catches, the scratch is through the clear—compound won't fix it; you're into touch-up or paint.

Work a small area with a dual-action polisher or a foam/microfibre pad by hand, 4–6 firm passes, then wipe and inspect before a second set.

Finish with a sealant or ceramic spray so your hard-earned shine doesn't bail after the first rinse.

Avoid heavy silicone fillers if a respray is on the cards, and always test on an inconspicuous spot first.
