cx 9 vs sorento Page 4

Big seven-seaters, big decisions—Mazda CX-9 versus Kia Sorento is a classic head-vs-heart squabble. Note the CX-9 is no longer sold new in Australia, but there are plenty on the used market.

Mazda CX-9

• Pros: Plush cabin, smooth turbo-petrol punch, quiet and composed ride, lovely steering.
• Cons: Thirstier than hybrid rivals, tighter third row, older infotainment, and you’ll be shopping used.

Kia Sorento

• Pros: Choice of diesel and hybrid options, genuinely usable third row, generous tech/features, long 7-year warranty.
• Cons: Ride can get firm on big wheels, cabin noise varies by spec, and prices climb fast with options.

Pick based on priorities: charm and polish (CX-9) or versatility and efficiency choices (Sorento).
