In NSW, if you buy from a licensed dealer, they normally lodge the Notice of Disposal and can process the transfer for you—very civilised. The buyer still needs to complete the transfer (online via Service NSW or with an Application for Transfer of Registration form), pay stamp duty and transfer fees, and do it within 14 days to dodge late fees. You’ll need ID and proof of acquisition; the dealer usually provides the e-paper trail so you’re not wrestling a clipboard. If someone says “dealer transfer form,” they usually mean the dealer’s disposal notice plus your standard transfer application. Private sale? Same deal minus the dealer—seller lodges a Notice of Disposal, buyer completes the transfer. When in doubt, ask the dealer or check Service NSW; it’s cheaper than guessing wrong.
