Short answer: there’s no diesel car ban in Australia, so your oil-burner isn’t about to be marched off to the scrapyard.
The ACT plans to phase out the sale of new fossil-fuelled light vehicles by 2035, but that’s not a ban on driving or owning existing cars. The new federal New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (from 2025) will nudge carmakers away from high‑emitting diesels, yet it doesn’t outlaw them. Some councils have flirted with low‑emission zone ideas, but there’s no nationwide diesel exclusion on the books. Expect fewer new diesel passenger cars over time and more hybrids/EVs muscling in, while used diesels keep chugging along just fine.
