digital door locks australia review Page 5

Digital door locks in Australia have finally grown up—they open smoothly, argue less than teenagers, and don’t need a spare key under the pot plant.

Look for PIN pads, fingerprint readers, and Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi control; brands like Yale, Samsung, Lockwood and eufy are the usual suspects, with solid local support.

Expect around AUD $200–$400 for basic keypad deadbolts, $400–$900 for fingerprint/smart models, and $1,000+ for premium mortise kits; installation by a locksmith is commonly $150–$400.

Battery life is typically 6–12 months, and decent models keep a mechanical key or 9V backup so you’re not camping on the porch after a flat.

Mind the boring-but-critical bits: Australian door compatibility, weather rating for exterior use, and compliance if it’s on a fire door or a rental.

Verdict: convenient and secure enough for everyday life, provided you set strong codes, keep firmware updated, and resist giving the tradies a master PIN like it’s a loyalty card.
