do caravans need a roadworthy Page 4

Ah, the age-old question that trips up many a caravan enthusiast: do caravans need a roadworthy certificate? In Australia, the answer is a bit like a mullet—business up front, party in the back. Generally, caravans do require a roadworthy certificate when being sold or transferred, much like a used car. This ensures the caravan’s brakes, tyres, lights, and general safety features are up to snuff before hitting the road.

However, if you’re just towing your own caravan around without selling it, no official roadworthy is needed. But beware, if your caravan is registered and used on public roads, it must be maintained in a safe condition to avoid a ticket from the local fuzz.

For the nitty-gritty and regional variations, check your state's transport authority or visit ServiceCentral. And remember, a caravan’s safety isn’t just paperwork—it’s the difference between a relaxing holiday and a roadside disaster.
