Do electric vehicles need servicing? Yes—but far less than a piston-powered drama queen.

No oil changes, timing belts or spark plugs; instead it’s brake fluid, cabin filters, tyre rotations, and the odd coolant/thermal system check plus software updates. Most makers in Australia suggest checks about every 12 months or 15,000 km, while some brands do condition-based schedules—either way, read the logbook rather than your mate’s group chat. Brakes last longer thanks to regen, but tyres can wear faster because EVs are heavy and enthusiastic. Expect lower routine costs than an equivalent petrol car, but don’t skip inspections—suspension, steering and safety systems still live in the real world, not the cloud.
