Shelby is an independent company founded by Carroll Shelby, and Ford uses the Shelby name on certain Mustangs under licence. The partnership goes back to the 1960s, which is why you see factory Ford models like the GT350 and GT500, while Shelby American also builds post-title specials like the Super Snake. Think of it as Ford builds the car, Shelby sprinkles the chilli flakes, and accountants exchange paperwork. So if you buy a modern Shelby-badged Mustang here, it’s a Ford product with a famous surname—whereas Shelby American’s own conversions are a separate gig.
