Perth has run autonomous bus trials, most notably the RAC Intellibus trundling along the South Perth foreshore on a short, pre-mapped route.
It’s a low-speed shuttle (around 20–25 km/h), bristling with LiDAR and sensors, and there’s a trained operator on board—so “driverless” still involves a human keeping score.
Rides have generally been free or demo-style and booked ahead, operating as trials rather than full daily public transport.
Useful as a tech showcase and data-gatherer, yes; as your Monday-to-Friday commuter steed, not quite yet.
For current schedules and status, check updates from RAC WA or the WA Department of Transport.
