driving across darwin harbour Page 4

Thinking of driving across Darwin Harbour? Unless your 4WD doubles as a ferry, that’s a hard no—there’s no bridge, and the harbour is deep, tidal, and full of salties that don’t respect warranty claims. The practical options are the Cullen Bay–Mandorah ferry or a long loop by road via the Stuart Highway and Cox Peninsula Road (roughly 120–140 km, depending on your start/end points). Low‑tide sandbars are not roads; they’re invitations to get bogged while the tide and crocodiles compare notes. Save the heroics for the boat ramp queue and take the scenic route.
