Ah, the infamous dutiable value—Queensland’s way of making sure your car purchase feels a bit lighter on the wallet. It’s basically the price you pay duty on when you buy a car, and it’s usually the higher of either the sale price or the market value determined by the Queensland Government. For new cars, it’s typically the invoice price or recommended retail price, while for used cars the government might use market guides or your actual purchase price.

Just remember, this dutiable value is what they slap the transfer duty percentage on—currently around 2% to 4% depending on the price bracket. So, whether you’re hunting for your next ride on Tradingpost or CarShowroom, keep an eye on that dutiable value. For the nitty-gritty, consulting the Queensland Government’s official documentation or ServiceCentral could save you from nasty surprises.
