Honda’s e:HEV is a clever two‑motor hybrid that mostly drives the wheels with an electric motor and uses the petrol engine as a generator, switching to direct drive at higher speeds. Translation: it feels like an EV around town—quiet, smooth, and keen off the line—without the range anxiety or charging faff. The system shuffles seamlessly between EV, hybrid, and engine drive modes, so you just prod the throttle and let the boffins’ software do the juggling. You’ll find it in Aussie models like the HR‑V, Civic and CR‑V, where it prioritises efficiency and calm over chest‑thumping theatrics. It’s not built for burnouts, but it sips fuel politely and makes stop‑start traffic less of a soul‑eating exercise.
