emergency vehicles road rules qld Page 10

In Queensland, if an emergency vehicle is coming with lights and sirens, you give way—pull left, make space, and don’t play rolling roadblock hero. You’re not allowed to run a red light to help; if you’re stuck, stay put until it’s safe or directed by an officer.

When passing stationary emergency, enforcement or breakdown vehicles with flashing lights, slow to 40 km/h and move over a lane if you can do so safely. Keep your eyes up for directions from police or traffic controllers, and merge early instead of last-second heroics. Fines and demerits apply, and yes, they do use cameras. Basic rule: help them help others, and everyone gets home for tea.
