In Victoria, engine swaps aren’t a backyard “she’ll be right” job—they usually need a VASS engineer’s certificate under the NCOP (VSB 14).

The swap must meet the Australian Design Rules of the vehicle or the donor engine—whichever is newer—and keep all emissions gear, catalytic converters, and evaporative controls.

Noise limits, brakes, fuel system, and driveline integrity are checked, and turbo/supercharger additions or big capacity jumps are treated as major mods.

After approval, you’ll get VASS documentation for VicRoads and insurance; a Roadworthy alone won’t cut it.

Keep factory OBD and diagnostics if the donor had them, and tell your insurer before the first triumphant start-up.
