Back in 2022, Australia’s EV scene went from “niche hobby” to “school-run normal.” Tesla’s Model 3 dominated sales, while the MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3 shoved affordable electric motoring into the mainstream, and Polestar 2, Hyundai Kona Electric, Nissan Leaf, Kia EV6, and Hyundai Ioniq 5 rounded out the hits. Typical ranges hovered around 300–500 km depending on model and battery, and DC fast charging was increasingly doable on networks like Chargefox and Evie, plus the Tesla Supercharger network for Teslas. Prices ran roughly from the mid‑$40Ks (value champs) to well over $100K (performance peacocks). In short: 2022 is when Aussie EVs stopped being a curiosity and started being a sensible purchase—well, sensible and a bit smug.
