Short version: Victoria’s $3,000 Zero Emissions Vehicle purchase subsidy has ended (wrapped up mid-2023), so no current state rebate at the checkout.
On the plus side, the state’s per-km EV road-user charge was struck down by the High Court in 2023, with refunds rolling out—so that little joy tax is gone.
You can still snag federal help: the Electric Car Discount gives eligible EVs a Fringe Benefits Tax exemption on novated leases (PHEVs were grandfathered only until 1 April 2025), plus an import duty exemption for eligible EVs and a higher Luxury Car Tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles.
Locally, grants for home/apartment or workplace chargers pop up via Solar Victoria, councils and utilities from time to time—great when open, mythical when not.
Net result: in VIC today the big savings are federal (especially for salary packaging), with occasional charger grants sweetening the deal; keep your eyes on official pages for openings and fine print.
