f30 engine Page 5

In BMW-speak, F30 is the 2012–2018 3 Series sedan, and its engines range from thrifty to "who needs rear tyres anyway".

In Australia you’ll commonly see 2.0‑litre turbo four-cylinder petrol (N20, later B48) in 320i/328i/330i, a 3.0‑litre turbo inline‑six (N55, later B58) in 335i/340i, and a 2.0‑litre turbo‑diesel (N47/B47) in 320d.

The M3 is a different chassis code (F80), so no, your F30 didn’t secretly swallow an S55 at the factory.

Outputs and exact hardware vary by year and trim, but the gist is: small turbo fours for efficiency, big smooth sixes for grins, and diesels for long-haul thrift.

Consult official documentation for exact figures.
