fbt exempt vehicles list 2023 Page 4

Hoping for an ATO-approved shopping list? Sorry, no laminated menu—but the 2023 FBT exemption covers eligible zero or low‑emission cars first held after 1 July 2022 and priced below the fuel‑efficient Luxury Car Tax threshold (about $85k for 2022–23).

That means battery‑electric and hydrogen fuel‑cell cars, plus plug‑in hybrids until 1 April 2025, can be FBT‑free when provided by an employer.

Think Tesla Model 3/Model Y, BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric/Ioniq 5, Kia Niro EV and similar—so long as they sit under the threshold and weren’t previously subject to LCT.

The concession also covers running costs in a novated lease; you’ll still report the benefit, but the FBT bill itself takes a nap.

Separately, utes and panel vans not designed mainly to carry passengers can be effectively FBT‑free with only minor private use—old rule, still handy.

Dates, thresholds and invoices matter more than sales chatter, so confirm with your accountant before you start measuring the garage.
