Hunting for an FBT-free vehicle? Australia’s Electric Car Discount makes employer-provided battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell cars FBT-exempt if they’re first held and used on or after 1 July 2022 and originally priced under the fuel-efficient LCT threshold.

PHEVs enjoyed the perk too, but only until 1 April 2025 (existing arrangements before that date are grandfathered until they end—no new free rides after). The exemption typically applies to the car fringe benefit and bundled running costs in a novated lease, but it still counts as a reportable fringe benefit for income tests.

Translation: cheaper salary packaging, not invisibility. Check the ATO rules and the vehicle’s original pricing/LCT status before signing anything, then crack on.
