Pull over somewhere flat and safe, hazards on, handbrake up, passengers out—no heroics on the shoulder. Grab the spare, jack, and wrench; crack the wheel nuts loose a quarter turn before lifting the car at the correct jacking point. Jack it up just enough, remove the nuts, swap the mangled donut for the spare, and hand-tighten in a star pattern. Drop the car, torque the nuts firmly (star pattern again), and inflate the spare to the placard pressure in kPa. Stow the wounded tyre, then drive gently and re-check the nuts after a few kilometres. If it’s a space-saver spare, keep it under 80 km/h and fix or replace the original tyre ASAP.
