ford falcon bf common problems Page 3

The Ford Falcon BF is a tough Aussie sedan, but age and kilometres have their favourite targets. Treat it well and it’ll tow, cruise and hoon to the bakery without complaint—most days.

• Rear differential bush wear: manifests as a clunk on take-off or when shifting from drive to reverse.
• Front lower control arm bushes and ball joints: shimmy, vague steering and inside-edge tyre wear.
• Brake shudder from front rotors; quality discs and pads fix it longer-term.
• Cooling system leaks (radiator, hoses, plastic expansion tank): watch the temp gauge like it’s a reality show finale.
• ZF 6-speed auto needs proper servicing despite the “sealed for life” myth; old fluid leads to flare and rough shifts.

Get it on a lift, check for leaks and bush play, and budget preventative maintenance—your Barra will thank you.
