ford focus 2006 problems

The 2006 Ford Focus is generally a tidy handler, but age exposes the usual gremlins.

Here’s what owners and mechanics commonly report in Australia:

• Ignition coils/leads causing misfires, rough idle and a glowing check engine light.
• Cooling system leaks from the thermostat housing or radiator end tanks.
• Front lower control arm bushes and sway-bar links wearing, leading to clunks and uneven tyre wear.
• Power steering fluid leaks and rack noise on high‑km cars.
• Blower fan resistor failure (fan only works on full blast) and window regulator/door lock actuator issues.
• Manual clutch and dual‑mass flywheel wear; on diesels, EGR clogging and intake soot.

Get a pre‑purchase inspection, check service records and recalls, and budget for a suspension refresh on higher‑km examples.

Parts availability is decent and costs are sensible, so a cared‑for one can be a cheap, cheerful runabout.
