ford ranger 2.0 bi-turbo reliability Page 6

Ford’s 2.0 Bi‑Turbo Ranger has generally proven solid in Aussie duty, provided you stick to the book and don’t treat service intervals like a polite suggestion. It’s more refined than the old 3.2, pulls hard for its size, and fleets have racked up big kilometres without drama when maintained. That said, a few patterns crop up:

• DPF regeneration complaints on short-trip use; highway runs or correct procedures fix it.
• EGR cooler concerns or carbon build-up over time.
• Intercooler/turbo hoses popping or splitting—annoying, cheap to sort.
• 10‑speed auto can shift harshly until the latest software updates are applied.
• Timing belt-in-oil needs replacement strictly as per the logbook.
• High-pressure fuel systems dislike dirty diesel—use quality fuel and filters.

If you tow heavy, be fussy about fluids, cooling and software updates, and it’ll do the hard yards without melodrama. Full service history and a long test drive are the best reliability upgrades you can buy.
