ford ranger automatic transmission upgrade Page 2

Looking to beef up your Ford Ranger’s auto so it shifts like it means it? Start with the sensible bits: a bigger transmission cooler, fresh correct-spec fluid and filter, a quality torque converter if you tow, and a tidy TCM tune to sort shift timing and flare.

Budget roughly AUD $400–$700 for a proper service, $300–$1,000 fitted for a cooler, $1,500–$3,000 plus labour for a converter, and $600–$1,200 for a reputable tune; if it’s already slipping, a rebuild can run $4k–$7k.

Heat ruins autos faster than a January sun melts gelato, so keep temps down—especially if you’re towing near GVM—and don’t chase big power without matching the drivetrain.

Match parts to your exact Ranger generation (earlier 6‑speed vs newer 10‑speed), use qualified installers, and keep warranty and insurance happy; shopping the hardware on Tradingpost is easy, but the fitment is where heroes are made.
