ford territory bad reviews

The Ford Territory cops its fair share of grumbles, though plenty still swear by the big Aussie wagon. Older examples tend to collect wear-and-tear issues that, when ignored, morph into a symphony of clunks, shudders, and warning lights. The diesel brings better economy while the petrol keeps things simpler; either way, a meticulous service history is your best friend. Here are the usual suspects people complain about:

• Front-end wear: lower control arm bushes, ball joints, and brake shudder from tired rotors.
• Driveline clunks: rear differential bush failure and, on AWDs, tailshaft centre bearing woes.
• Transmission niggles: ZF 6-speed shift flare/shudder if servicing is skipped; mechatronic sleeve leaks; early 4-speed can feel slushy.
• AWD specifics: transfer case/front CV wear and occasional diff or transfer case leaks.
• Diesel issues: EGR/intake soot build-up, turbo actuator complaints, and the need to keep timing-belt changes on schedule.
• Electrical/trim: door lock actuators, tailgate wiring looms, HVAC blend-door motors, and tired tailgate struts.

None of this is terminal if you buy smart—get a pre-purchase inspection, check receipts, and take a long test drive; your ears will tell you the truth faster than any ad.
