Chasing free campervan parking in Sydney? Short version: don’t bank on the beach.

Most councils restrict sleeping in vehicles, and foreshore car parks are almost always off-limits; you can park where it’s legal, but “camping” (awnings, chairs, the full balcony extension) is a no-go.

Genuinely free options are scarce inside the metro area; look instead to NSW 24-hour rest areas on highways around the fringes, intended for short overnight stops, not multi-day stays.

Low-cost fallbacks include showgrounds and caravan parks; national parks and suburban reserves typically prohibit overnighting and fines apply.

Wherever you stop: check signs and council rules, keep it low-key (arrive late, leave early), no litter or generators, and move on when time limits tick over.
