fuel light distance australia Page 7

When the fuel light pops on in Australia, you’re not instantly doomed—it usually means there’s roughly 5–10 litres left. That’s about 50–100 km depending on the car, your right foot, and whether you’re slogging traffic or cruising the Hume. Big utes and SUVs often carry more reserve; tiny hatches, less—your owner’s manual or trip computer is your best guide. Running it dry isn’t clever: it can overheat in-tank pumps, stir up crud, and leave you stranded somewhere with dubious pies. In regional areas, refuel by a quarter tank and treat the light as a polite nudge, not a dare.
