goliath spider australia Page 4

The Goliath spider, or Goliath bird-eater, is a monstrous arachnid native to the rainforests of South America, not Australia. With a leg span reaching up to 30 centimetres and a weight of around 170 grams, it’s the largest spider on God’s green earth. Australia, despite its reputation for deadly critters, plays host to different giant spiders, such as the huntsman and the Sydney funnel-web, but no Goliath bird-eaters. So, if you’re dreaming of spotting one in the Aussie bush, you’re barking up the wrong eucalyptus.
