When a Hilux drops into limp mode, it’s the ute’s way of saying “I’ll get you home, but we’re not having fun.”
Common culprits are airflow and boost issues, soot build-up, or a sulking sensor.
Scan it first with OBD2; then check the basics: split intercooler hoses, clogged fuel/air filters, dirty MAF/MAP, sticky EGR, and DPF saturation on later diesels.
If codes show over/under-boost, pressure-test the intake, inspect vacuum lines, turbo actuator and boost control solenoids; for DPF, perform a proper regen after the root cause is fixed.
A battery reset only hushes the warning light; fix the fault, clear codes, and road-test to confirm full power is back.
