holden captiva problems 2013 Page 2

The 2013 Holden Captiva has a reputation for drama worthy of a soap opera, but not every car is a ticking time-bomb.

If you’re shopping one, focus on service history and a long, calm test drive—then let an independent mechanic poke it with a spanner.

Common trouble spots reported by owners include:

• Timing chain stretch (petrol) and rough cold starts.
• 6-speed auto shudder/flare, delayed shifts, or failure.
• Diesel EGR/DPF clogging, limp mode, and smoky starts.
• Cooling leaks (water pump/thermostat housing) and overheating.
• Electrical gremlins: window regs, central locking, sensors and warning lights.
• Wheel bearings, engine mounts, and diff/transfer case leaks.
• Air-con evaporator or compressor issues.

If it drives straight, shifts cleanly and has receipts for regular servicing and software updates, it can be cheap-and-cheerful family transport; otherwise, walk.
