holden cruze handbrake adjustment Page 4

If your Holden Cruze’s handbrake is pulling like a limp handshake, it’s usually down to cable stretch, rear mechanism wear, or both. Cruzes came with two common setups: a caliper-integrated parking brake or a drum-in-hat arrangement, and each needs the rear brakes correctly set before you even think about cable tension. The golden rule is simple: restore the rear brake adjustment first, then take up only a whisker of cable slack so the lever has a few clicks and the wheels still spin free. Over-tighten it and you’ll cook the rear brakes faster than a snag on a Bunnings hotplate. If you’re unsure which system you’ve got—or the lever still travels to the moon—get a proper inspection and follow the factory workshop manual, because guesswork here can get expensive and unsafe.
