The Holden Elizabeth plant in South Australia was the heartbeat of local car-building for decades, turning out Commodores and more while employing thousands.
It shut its doors in October 2017, which neatly (and sadly) bookended mass automotive manufacturing in Australia.
For many Aussies it was more than a factory; it was a rite of passage, a paycheck, and the reason Friday arvos smelled faintly of coolant and pride.
The site has been moving toward redevelopment, but its legacy is the cars still burbling around our suburbs, refusing to retire gracefully—much like their owners.
