holden frontera problems Page 6

The Holden Frontera can be solid bush kit, but it’s not without a few gremlins that love a surprise cameo.

• Timing belt and water pump (V6) are critical; overdue changes can turn valves into modern art.
• Oil leaks from rocker covers and tired intake gaskets lead to rough idle and that charming burnt‑oil aroma.
• Autos can overheat when towing; fresh fluid and an auxiliary cooler are cheap insurance.
• 4WD engagement faults (vacuum/actuators) and worn bushes/ball joints cause clunks, shudders, and wandering steering.

Get a pre‑purchase inspection, budget for catch‑up maintenance, and it’ll spend more time on tracks than on ramps.
