holden jackaroo v6 problems

The Holden Jackaroo V6 (basically an Isuzu Trooper in a flanno) is tough, but time hasn’t exactly been gentle. Here are the usual gremlins owners report:

  • Oil consumption on the 3.5-litre, plus leaks from rocker-cover gaskets.
  • Timing belt, tensioners and water pump overdue—skip it and you’re gambling with valves.
  • Intake manifold gasket and idle-air issues causing rough idle or stalling; MAF/EGR carbon build-up doesn’t help.
  • Ignition misfires from tired coils/leads and ageing plugs.
  • Cooling system neglect: clogged radiators and old hoses leading to overheating.
  • General age wear: vacuum lines, PCV valves and perished rubber causing odd drivability woes.

Expect thirst and old-school NVH; it’s a 4x4, not a latte machine. A thorough pre-purchase inspection, compression test and proof of timely belt changes will save you heartache and cash.
