how do cab charges work Page 2

Cab fares in Australia are a cocktail of a base flagfall, a per‑kilometre rate, and a per‑minute waiting rate—then garnished with a few extras for flavour. Expect add‑ons like late‑night or public holiday surcharges, airport or booking fees, and any road tolls passed straight through. Pay by cash, card, or a Cabcharge card/voucher; card processing fees are typically capped around 5% by state regulations. The meter tallies distance and time (hello, traffic), so a short crawl can sting like a longer sprint. Want a ballpark first? Most taxi apps and state fare calculators will estimate the damage in AUD, and you’ll get an itemised receipt for expenses.
