For a car, a NSW learner driver licence lasts 5 years, which is plenty of time to perfect hill starts and stall gracefully at roundabouts. Under 25s must hold Ls for at least 12 months and log 120 hours (including 20 at night) before the test; over 25s don’t have the logbook grind, but the licence still lasts 5 years. If your Ls expire, you’ll need to sit the knowledge test again to get back on the road to P-plate glory. Best move is to progress to your P1 before the clock runs out, because nobody enjoys redoing paperwork.
