In Victoria, a Certificate of Roadworthiness lasts 30 days from the date of issue for registration or ownership transfer. VicRoads simply won’t accept it if it’s older, and yes, that means you’ll need a fresh inspection if you let it lapse. The car also has to remain roadworthy on the day you hand over the keys—shocking, I know. It’s not a full mechanical health check either; it’s a basic safety snapshot so the wheels don’t fall off at Woolies. Sort the transfer within the month and you’re golden; miss it, and you’re back on the hoist.
