Short answer: in Victoria you’ll be rocking P plates for up to four years, depending on your age when you pass the test.
If you’re under 21, it’s 12 months on P1 (red) then 3 years on P2 (green)—a total of 4 years. If you’re 21 or older, you skip P1 and do 3 years on P2 straight. Rack up a suspension or a few heroic mistakes and the probation can be extended, which is nobody’s idea of a victory lap.
Keep the plates on whenever you drive and mind the usual P‑plate restrictions; rules can change, so check the latest from VicRoads.
