In Queensland, you have 14 days from the date you buy a vehicle to transfer the rego—miss it and you’ll cop a late fee.
Do it online with TMR and, once both seller and buyer submit the details and you pay the transfer fee and vehicle duty, it’s typically updated straight away in your account. Paper forms lodged at a Customer Service Centre are processed after lodgement, usually within a few business days. You’ll need ID, vehicle details, an odometer reading (for light vehicles), and, if applicable, a current safety certificate. If the plates are personalised or there’s finance involved, allow extra time for the admin gremlins. Bottom line: aim for same‑day online, but make sure it’s done within 14 days or the only thing accelerating will be the fees.
