how many km can you claim without a log book Page 6

Short answer: up to 5,000 business kilometres per car, per financial year using the ATO’s cents-per-kilometre method—no logbook required.

You still need a reasonable basis for the km (diaries, calendars, client visits; not vibes), and they must be genuine work trips.

Commuting to your regular workplace usually doesn’t count, unless you’re hauling bulky gear you can’t leave at work.

Go beyond 5,000 km or want to claim more actual costs? That’s the logbook method, where records rule.
