In Queensland, you don’t need an annual roadworthy—this isn’t a gym membership you forget about.
You need a Safety Certificate when you sell a registered vehicle, transfer registration to a new owner, or re-register a used vehicle (including bringing one in from interstate).
Private sellers must have it before advertising, and it’s typically valid for 2 months or 2,000 km, whichever comes first; licensed dealers get up to 3 months or 1,000 km.
No certificate is required just to keep driving the car you already own, assuming it stays registered and unmodified in ways that would make it defect-worthy.
Check TMR for the finer print, but that’s the gist—simple, for once.
